Do you have High Cholesterol?
Too much cholesterol in the blood is called high blood cholesterol or hypercholesterolemia. The cholesterol can build up in the walls of arteries and increase your chance of having cardiovascular diseases like stroke, heart attack or sudden death.
More than 50 million of US adults over the age of 20 have cholesterol levels high enough to need treatment (NHANES*). While dietary therapy should be recommended for all patients with high cholesterol levels, NHANES estimates that 21 million Americans have cholesterol levels high enough to need to take cholesterol-lowering medications. However, 65% of eligible patients have received no intervention of any type.
There are no signs or symptoms of high blood cholesterol. Many people do not know> that their cholesterol level is too high.
The Long Beach Center for Clinical Research (LBCCR) conducts clinical trials of new treatments for high cholesterol and offers free screening for high cholesterol. Make an appointment to have your cholesterol checked as part of a free health screening at LBCCR.
