Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I know if my cholesterol level is too high?
Normal cholesterol levels are less than 200; however, the cholesterol components HDL, LDL and triglycerides are more important in determining your risk than the total cholesterol. HDL, or high density lipoprotein, is often called the " good " cholesterol, because higher levels are better. LDL, or low density lipoprotein should be less than 130 in most people, but much lower levels are recommended for some high risk patients. The ratio of total cholesterol to HDL is another way to estimate risk (a lower ratio is associated with a lower risk).
